Power supply to Vlieland Island, Waddenzee

Nuon has the intention to stop the local generation on the island Vlieland and to provide a connection to the electricity grid on the mainland. After comparison of a number of alternatives, including a cable connection from the island Texel, it was decided to supply the island with power from Harlingen located on the coast of Friesland. Lievense was assigned to work out this plan and provide an environmental effect report to derive the most environment friendly solution. The assignment included the following:

Investigation of four aspects:

- surroundings aspects and interaction
- installation and costs regarding construction, control and maintenance

Preliminary design with a comparison of routes including required depths and excavation methods.
