Coastal landing pipeline Barrow Part of the development of the River Fields gas exploration project in the Irish Sea is the landing of the offshore pipeline at the coast, some 5 kilometers south of Barrow-In-Furness. The contractor responsible for the offshore pipe laying assigned Lievense Consulting Engineers to design the temporary works and methodology needed to construct an open trench through the littoral coastal zone. These works included two cofferdams and two anchor walls for the winches. The force required to pull the gas pipeline on land amounted to 825 tons.
Based on limited availability of geotechnical information a preliminary design of the constructions was made and the need and details of additional geotechnical survey work was specified. With the improved knowledge of the soil parameters from these additional geotechnical investigations the design could be further optimised in consultation with the contractor, also with respect to the execution methodology. During the actual construction Lievense have provided supporting consultation services to their client.
Activities:
- preliminary design temporary works
- specification and interpretation of geotechnical survey work
- detailed design
- advising during construction phase
