Locks Spijkenisse In 2003 thirteen existing locks and sluices in the dykes surrounding the polder of Voorne-Putten were reviewed according to the new safety check procedures for coastal and river bank protection. Three structures could not be approved because of the original design boundary conditions, specifications and design calculations were missing.
Lievense was appointed to carry out complete recalculations for the Voorne navigation lock and the Spijkenisse water inlet sluice and floodgate, in order to determine the maximum outside water level the structures can retain. The calculations included concrete and steel calculations and geotechnical calculations to establish the structural strength and stability, for both the structures and their moving elements. Part of the work was the safety check according to the Dutch Regulations for Safety Checks 2004 for flood retaining structures.
Activities:
- recalculation of structural strength and stability of navigation locks and water inlet sluices
- comparison procedure with safety standards
- calculation of gates and doors on structural strength and stability
