Utility tunnel Western Scheldt Feasibility study for a utility tunnel through the Western Scheldt, between Terneuzen and Ellewoutsdijk (approx. 5,5 km), possibly in combination with an Underground Logistic System (UTP).
During economic times of expansion there will be an extra need for quick transport capability for energy, water, oil and other commodities. Without a utility tunnel, the Western Scheldt will be a major obstacle to cross. The proposed solution makes this possible in an easy way, and is seen as an environmentally friendly crossing.
In the final phase this project was not carried out, due to insufficient financial (governmental) support.
